In accordance with the revised Time-Table of Events of the School of Postgraduate Studies, 2016/2017, the School of Postgraduate Studies is organizing orientation for its fresh postgraduate students admitted in the 2016/2017 session for Nsukka and Enugu Campuses.

Venue of the Orientation:     Princes Alexandra Auditorium, U.N.N.

Concept Note:

In pursuit of the vision of the current University Administration to reposition its postgraduate programmes for global competitiveness, the School of Postgraduate Studies considers it needful and pertinent to organize orientation programme for its 2016/2017 intakes.  This will be a proactive enlightenment effort that will spur postgraduate students to operate at the expected high levels and minimize cases of delays in graduation, failures and mistakes that could arise from ignorance.

SESSION:  CHANGE OF DATE

Please refer to our memorandum UN/SPGS/S.1/3 of 25^th March, 2017 on the above subject and the attached schedule for the orientation of postgraduate students admitted in the 2016/2017 session.  This is to inform you that the date of the above orientation programme has been postponed to 15^th May, 2017 to enable postgraduate students who were offered late admissions participate in the orientation.

Concept Note:

The Departments and Faculties are required to organize orientation programmes for their fresh postgraduate students admitted in the 2016/2017.

The orientation programme should be designed to familiarise the newly admitted students with the University and its postgraduate programmes.  It should also provide a forum to enlighten the students on the postgraduate rules/regulations, and introduce them to the available facilities/ resources at Departmental and Faculty levels.  Furthermore, the students are to be exposed to motivational ideas that will make for successful studentship in the University of Nigeria.

Programme of the Orientation:

15^th May, 2017: 8a.m – 10a.m – Orientation at the Departmental Level

15^th May, 2017: 2.00p.m – 4.00p.m – Orientation at the Faculty Level

Heads of Department and Deans of Faculty are enjoined to ensure that the orientation programmes in their Departments and Faculties are executed and implemented in accordance with the above schedule.  Please, inform all who will address the students during the orientation programme in good-time to enable them prepare their talks.  Also inform the concerned fresh students in your Department/Faculty who will participate in the orientation.

The Faculty of Agribusiness and Commerce delivers business-related undergraduate and
postgraduate programmes, research and effective engagement with relevant industry and

natural, modified, and built environments. The Faculty of Agribusiness and Commerce has
particular focus on all aspects of agribusiness and aspires to become the leading provider of
agribusiness education and research in Australasia.
Currently, the Faculty are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Farm Management to support the
Professor of Farm Management, in a fixed term role for two years.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to research in a number of areas, with emphasis on
the economic, environmental and social aspects of sustainable farming and horticultural
systems.
This may include impacts of, and response to, policy and market change; metrics at the
farm/business level – technical efficiency and resilience; the environmental sustainability of
production systems; ensuring on-farm/business biosecurity; farmer/grower extension and
knowledge transfer; farmer decision making; and supply and value change management in
the primary industry sector.

The successful candidate will have:
 PhD in in Farm Management, Agricultural Science or Agricultural Economics.
Candidates with related PhD qualifications or awaiting PhD results are also
encouraged to apply

 A background in farm systems analysis and/or farm economics as well as strong
quantitative and statistical skills to address farm business management questions.

 Demonstrated the ability to complete research projects, write-up and publish findings
in high quality refereed journals.

 The ability to teach within a multi-and inter-disciplinary setting, and to stimulate,
encourage and facilitate learning by both large and small student groups, at
undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
