GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Age Limit

No Person under the of sixteen years may be admitted into the University

University Admission Entry Requirements: admission into all Sandwich degree Courses is by Direct Entry only.

 

  1. The following are eligible to apply for admission into the University by direct entry

 

  • Holder of School Certificate/GCE Ordinary Level and the Higher School Certificate/GCE Advanced Level with passes in two subjects at Principal or Advanced Level together with a pass in one other subject at subsidiary or credit level:

 

  • Holders of the Higher School Certificate.GCE Advance Level with passes I four subjects at principal level. The number of passes indicated in 2 (A) a-c above should be obtained in not more than two sittings;

 

  • Holders of the School Certificate or its equivalent with at least four credit-level passes and a pass in English language plus approved 2-year diploma (se Appendix 13 for list of Diploma acceptable for related courses);

 

  • Holders of post-secondary qualification beyond the levels of 2 (A) (a)-(c) above. Qualifications include degrees and diploma of this and other Universities of Institutions recognized by the University (see Appendix C).

 

  • Holder of the Diploma in Music Education of this University with at least a credit are eligible for admission into the five year Sandwich degree Programme in Music.

 

  • Holders of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with at least a merit aggregate; plus a minimum of credit pas in the subject to be combined with education are eligible for admission into the 5-years Sandwich Degree Programme in Education.

 

  • The following candidates are eligible to apply for admission into the five-year Sandwich Degree Programme in Education.

 

  • Holders of UN Diploma with 5 Federal paper(s) in T.C II which will include credit/merit Level passes in English and Mathematics; are eligible for admission into the five year Sandwich Degree Programme Education.
  • NCE holder with less than a credit aggregate.
  • Holders of degree and diploma of this and other Universities or Institutions recognized by the Universiy (see Appendix C)
  • Holders of Teachers Grade One Certificate
  • Holders of the Associationship Certificate in Education

 

 

DETAILS AND SPECIFIC DEPARTMENTAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

B.A (Hons) in English (5 years)

 

(i)   Passes at HSC or GCE A/L to include English literature in at least grade D among others and credit level pass in English Language in WASC or its equivalent.

 

B.A (Hons) in History (5 years)

I     Passes at HSC or GCE A/L to include History and at least one other related plus credit-level passes including English Language in SC or its equivalent.

Ii    NCE with at least a merit pass in  History

 

B.A (Hons) in Religion (5 years)

I      Passes at HSC or GCE A/L in Bible knowledge and

 

OR

Ii    Two year Diploma in Religion studies from Institution Recognized by the University plus 4 credit level passes including English language in SSCE or its equivalent

OR

Iii     NCE at least merit level in Religious studies

OR

iv      Three year Diploma from Theological colleges and senior seminaries recognized by      the University.

 

B.A. (Hons) in Philosophy (5 years)

(i)  Passes at HSC or GCE A/L in two subjects preferably in the social sciences and Arts plus credit-level in English language and one science subject in WASC, G.C.E or its equivalent.

(ii)   Three year Diploma in philosophy from recognized Institutions plus four credit level passes including English language and one science subject in WASC G C E or its equivalent.

 

B.A (Hons) in Fine and Applied Arts (5 years)

(i)    NCE with at least a merit pass in Fine Arts

(ii)    ND not below merit pass in Fine Arts plus 4 credit-level passes in WASC or its equivalent.

(iii)    Pass at HSC or GCE A/L in at least two subjects including fine Arts.

(iv)    NCE with distinction or credit in Fine Arts.

 

All candidates must submit a sample portfolio of their works to the Head of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, UNN.

The portfolio and the Passport photograph of the candidate must be certified by the Art Teacher, Principal or Head of last school attended or recognized artist or any other competent authority (The candidates may be invited for an interview).

 

 

 

B.Sc (Hons) in Economics (5 years)

(i )   Passes at HSC or GCE A/LO in at least two of the following subject Mathematics, Statistics Economics, Geography, Government, Physics, Chemistry and Agric Science plus credit in English  Language In WASC or its equivalent. For candidates without HSC or GCE A/L Mathematics or statistics, credit in Maths at the WASC its equivalent will be required.

 

B.Sc (Hons) in Physical Education and Recreation (5 years)

  1. Passes in NCE in health and physical Education. Diploma in H.P.E with merit and above, plus credit-level passes in four subjects including biology in WASC or its equivalent.

 

B.Sc (Hons) in Vocational Teacher Education (5 years)

(a)   Agricultural Education (5 years)

(i)    NCE holders in Agric Science plus credit level passes in Chemistry and Biology in WASC or its equivalent.

OR

(ii)   ND in Agriculture with a minimum of credit passes in four subjects including Chemistry and Biology or Agric science and Chemistry in WASC or its equivalent.

 

(iii)   HND in Agriculture from recognized institution plus credit level passes in Chemistry and Biology or Agric Science and Chemistry in WASC or its equivalent.

 

(b)   Business Education (5 years)

(i)   NCE in Business Education with at least a merit pass.

OR

(ii)   (National) Technical Teacher Certificate (NTTC)

(iii)  HND in Business Education

 

(iv)  ND Secretarial Studies with at least a lower credit pass

(v)National Secretarial Exam Certificate (NSCE) Advanced level

(vi)  WAEC/RSA/FTC Advanced Level in Business Studies which must include either Shorthand and Typewriting or Accounting and Commerce or Economics.

 

Any of the above plus credit passes in English language and Maths in WASC, GCE, RSA/Business studies stage II, NECO, NABTEB, NTC.

(c)     Home Economics (5 years)

i     Holder of NCE in Home Economics plus credit level passes in Chemistry and    Biology in WASC or its equivalent.

OR

(ii)   ND in (Home Economics) or in Hotel and catering Management with a minimum of    lower credit passes plus credit level in Chemistry and Biology in WASC or its equivalent

(iii) HND in (Home Economics) plus credit level passes in Chemistry and Biology in WASC or its equivalent.

 

(d) Industrial Technical Education (5 years)

i   HSC/GCE A/L in Physical and Mathematics

ii At least a lower credit passes  in National Diploma (ND) in Engineering – Civil, Mathematics/Production, Electrical/Electronics plus credit level pass in Physics or Maths in WASC or its equivalent.

OR

iii  City and Guilds Final or its equivalent plus credit level pass in Physics or Maths in WASC or its equivalent.

  1. Holder of NCE in (Tech. Education) plus credit level pass in Physics or Maths. In WASC or its equivalent

OR

  1. HND (Engineering or its equivalent or Final City and Guilds plus Nationsl Technical Teachers Certificate. All candidates must have credit in Physics or Maths in WASC or its equivalent.

 

(e)  B.Sc Education/Political Science (5 years)

   i     Passes at NCE, GCE A/L; HSC including the subject to be combined with Education, or University of Nigeria Diploma in Public Administration plus Credit level passes in four subjects including English Language and a pass in Mathematics in WASC/SSCE or its equivalent.

Ii ND,OND of this and other Universities or  recognized institution by the University in Public Administration plus credit level passes in four subjects including English Language and any other qualification that may be approved by the senate of the University.

 

(f) Computer Education (5 years)

  1. Two ‘A’ level passes or equivalent in Physics and Mathematics.
  2. Diploma in Computer Science Education or any other Diploma in Computer Science from any recognized institution.

iii. Distinction or merit or pass in NCE in Computer Education or Physics or Mathematics (Five ‘O’ level credit including Mathematics or physics, and any other three subjects)

 

(g) B.Sc Public Administration (5years)

  1. HND PALG: Plus credit level passes in English Language Government or History and a pass in Mathematics
  2. OND: Merit plus credit level passes in four subject including English Language, Government or History and a pass in Mathematics in WASC or its equivalent.

iii. ND, OND of this and other Universities or recognized institution by the University (Public Admin., Local Government, Management Secretarial Studies) Merit plus  credit level passes in four subjects including English Language Government or History and a pass in Mathematics in WASC/GCE or its equivalent.

  1. HSC/GCE ‘A’ level at least 2 papers including Government or History
  2. HND: Merit/credit plus credit pass in English, Government or History and a pass in Mathematics in WASC/GCE or its equivalent.

Vi ADP PALG: Merit/Credit plus credit pass in English, Government or History and a pass in Mathematics in WASC/GCE or its equivalent.

Vii OND.ND of this and other Universities or recognized institutions by the university. Credit/Distinction plus credit level pass I English Language, Government or History and a pass in Mathematics in WASC/GCE or its equivalent.

Viii  HSC/GCE ‘A’ level at least 3 papers including Government or History.

(h)  B.Sc Computer Statistics (5 years)

I  Pass at NCE/OND/A/L and UN Diploma in Computer and Statistics, Maths or Statistics plus four credits in WASC/SSCE or its equivalent including credit level pass in Mathematics and a pass in English Language.

Ii  UN Diploma in Computer Science Computer/Statistics, Mathematics or NCE in Computer Science HSC or GCE A/L plus four credit level passes in WASC or its equivalent of which one must include Mathematics

(i)Bachelor or Library and Information Science (B.LIS) 5 years).

(f)  The department offers a 5 years degree programme in Bachelor of Library and Information Science with special academic disciplines of the Arts, Social Science or Science to be combined as follows (English, Economics, Political Sciences and Bptany)

I NCE in Library and Information Science with at least merit level pass or the subject being combines with library and information science and any relevant Scool Certificate requirements.

Ii Diploma in Library and Information science with at least merit or other relevant Diploma merit level, plus four credits including credit in the subject to be combined with Library and Information Science in West African School Certificate or its equivalent: and other combination requirements.

iii  Higher School Certificate HSC/GCE Advanced level in at least two subjects, including that to be combined with Library and Information Science.
