CALL FOR ABSTRACTS/PAPERS

Dynamism defines the whole of reality. This means that all aspects of reality are constantly changing. When these changes are considered to lead to improvements in the well-being of human beings in societies, it is said that there is development in such societies. The African continent, considered as a single society, has been experiencing development crises. To worsen these crises, several sections of the African society are experiencing various forms of unrest and displacement of citizens as a result of religiously-biased attacks, civil unrest against bad leadership, and so on. These are very unfortunate situations; and they are worsened by two problems. The first is the fact that many young people in most African societies have mistakenly understood the predominant bad political leadership as though it is the best. The second is that many young people see human values and norms only from the point of view of their immediate cultural values and norms. The above two problems have continued to have huge negative impacts on human existence in Africa. These problems are the issues the organizers of this conference considered worth addressing. What is striking is that in the views of the conference organizers, the Schools and Institutes of General Studies in tertiary institutions are very handy platforms for addressing the above problems and others related to or resulting from them. For these reasons, the organizers of this conference hope that the conference will provide opportunities for scholars, representatives from governmental and non-governmental organizations, academics, and University students, to consider how the General Studies courses can be used more consciously to bring about desirable changes to better prepare young Africans for the task of sustainable development in the 21st century African societies. On the basis of the above clarifications, presenters and participants are expected to address the issues on the theme/sub-themes of this conference.
