Call for Applications:
Post-doctoral Researcher on policy-relevant research on climate mitigation in EfD-Nigeria (University of Nigeria, Nsukka)
Climate Policies for Development (CPfD) Collaborative invites applications for a post-doctoral position focused on developing a policy-relevant research agenda on climate change mitigation policies in Africa. This is a unique opportunity for early-career researchers from Africa to contribute to impactful work in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, which is also an EfD Center.
CPfD is an interdisciplinary collaborative, sponsored by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) as a part of the Environment for Development Initiative (EfD). CPfD is a collaborative effort hosted by the Centre for Research on Economics of Climate, Food, Energy and Environment (CECFEE), and co-led by E. Somanathan (ISI Delhi (EfD-India)), Thomas Sterner (University of Gothenburg, Sweden) and Jan Steckel (Research Domain Climate Economics and Policy (MCC Berlin) at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Germany). By collaborating with researchers in other EfD-centers in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin and Central America, CPfD aims to create policy relevant outcomes through research, policy outreach and capacity building in climate economics.
About the position:
The postdoctoral researcher will lead innovative research to promote the economics of sustainable climate mitigation measures in Sub-Saharan Africa. This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with EfD-Nigeria (can extend to other partners in Sub-saharan Africa), policymakers, and key stakeholders, bridging the gap between academic insights and actionable policies in climate mitigation policy. During the fellowship, lasting two years, the postdoc will work closely with the CPfD team. The postdoc will also be involved in supporting and, where needed, executing the CPfD collaborative workplans 2025-27.
The researcher is encouraged to actively engage with other EfD centers and fellows within the CPfD network to foster comparative and collaborative research and knowledge sharing. They will be expected to produce high-quality research, contribute to capacity-building activities within the network, and present at internal and external seminars.
