Main Research Focus of the RG: Animal Diseases and Health Research, Drug Development and Repositioning, Trypanosomosis Research, Epizootiology of Animal Diseases, and Safety of Animal Products.

 

Title of most recent research projects:

  • Trypanosomosis Research: Pathophysiology of trypanotolerance in domestic animals and evaluation of combination chemotherapies for drug-resistant trypanosomes.
  • Drug development: Bioassay guided isolation of hepatoprotective and hepatotherapeutic agents from indigenous herbs and plants.
  • Comparative evaluation of the occurrence of kidney damage in domestic animals, and search for specific and differential markers of kidney damage in the different domestic animals.
  • Development of therapies for benign prostatic hyperplasia from crude extracts of indigenous mushrooms.

  • John I. Ihedioha, DVM, MSc, PhD, FCVSN. John I. Ihedioha is a Professor of Veterinary Pathology and the Coordinator of the Veterinary Clinical Research Group. His area of specialization is Veterinary Clinical Pathology (Haematology and Clinical Biochemistry/Chemical Pathology). His research interests are Animal Diseases, Animal Health, Drug Development, Toxicopathology and Development of Diagnostic Markers of Animal Diseases. He is also involved in the administration of Humane Animal Care and Use in Research, and Ethical use of Animals in Research.
