ENERGY REGULATION AND POLICY RESEARCH GROUP
1. NAME OF RESEARCH GROUP:
Energy Regulation and Policy Research Group
2. RESEARCH FOCUS
The exploitation of Nigeria’s energy resources and the assurance of national energy security require research-based energy policies, projections and plans.
The new Electricity Supply Industry, with its focus on private sector operators and competition in an imperfect market for the delivery of electricity services, requires informed development of policies, regulations and guidelines to ensure a smooth, efficient and effective operation of the market. The evolving and similar gas market, in consequence of the revised gas policy, requires similar regulatory support.
Consequently, the activities of the research group will be focused on:
– Regulations for the supply, transportation, trading, capacity expansion , service provision and efficient consumption of electricity
– Special regulations for rural electrification
– Regulations for the supply, transportation, trading, capacity expansion and consumption of gas
– National, regional, state and industry sector energy policies, as well as policies specific to energy types, economic sectors or population groups
– Energy supply and demand studies and projections;
– Trends in, constraints to, and appropriate policies for the development and promotion of identified energy markets
– Energy intensities in economic sectors
– Energy and Environment interaction studies and mitigation measures.
– and Others
