Main Research Focus of the RG: Synthesis, Characterization and Computational/Simulation Studies of Carbonaceous materials, Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs), Hydrogen-bonded Organic Frameworks (HOFs) and other Advanced Porous Materials (APMs), and their applications in gas separation and storage by adsorption, with special focus in carbon dioxide (CO2) capture.

- Nnamdi L. Obasi: He holds an MSc in Inorganic Chemistry (2004) and a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry (2011), all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He graduated in 1999 winning an Award for his performance at the bachelor degree level, as the best graduating student in the Department of Pure & Industrial Chemistry. Prof. Obasi received the Elsevier Reviewer Recognition Award in 2013, 2018 and 2019. He has served as a Chairman and or Member, National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Panel for Undergraduate Programmes at the several Federal, State and Private Universities, and Affiliate programmes since 2017 to date. He was a Panelist at NEST-FUNAI Pre-Conference Seminar, Federal University, Ndifu-Aleke, Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State (2016), and a guest speaker at the maiden Conference of the School of Basic and Applied Sciences, Taraba State Polytechnic, Suntai, Taraba State (2018). Prof. Obasi was a recipient of the UNN Vice Chancellor’s financial award of academic excellence in 2018 for his publications in Thompson Reuters high impact factor Journals. He has also received two patents from the Federal Government of Nigeria for sets of novel compounds his team has synthesized. He has served as External Examiner at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State; Renaissance University, Enugu State; Vaal University of Technology, South Africa, and Moderator (M. Tech-Chemistry): Vaal University of Technology, South Africa. He has served as External Assessor for Professorial Cadres in several Federal, State and Private Universities in Nigeria. Prof. Obasi is a regular reviewer for high impact journals in the field of chemistry. He has served, and still serving the Department, Faculty of Physical Sciences, and the University of Nigeria in various Boards and committees either as a member or Chairman. He has published over 44 articles in both local and international peer-reviewed Journals with high impact factor. He has participated in some sponsored international and national conferences within and outside country where he presented over 32 research papers. Prof. Obasi is a member of the following professional bodies: Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON); Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) and New York Academy of Science (NYAS) and currently the Vice Chairman, Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Enugu Chapter
