Abstract
A two-row automatic minisett yam planter prototype was designed, constructed and tested. The prototype has a special two-row ridger which makes small, 50 cm ridges at 90 cm row spacing. Although a three-point linkage-mounted planter, its metering mechanism is ground driven so that the within-row spacing of the minisetts are independent of the tractor forward speed. The prototype planter, operating at up to 7 km/h makes the ridges and automatically meters and plants the minisetts in the ridges at about 24 cm within-row spacing and at a selected planting depth of 4 cm.
