ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND DURATION:

 

  • 4-YEAR DEGREE SANDWICH PROGRAMME

 

University of Nigeria offers a 4-Year Sandwich Degree Programme for holders of NCE and National Diploma.

 

Candidates seeking for admission into the 4-year degree programme must possess:

 

  1. a minimum of Merit in NCE in the relevant area from a recognized higher institution in Nigeria, in addition to a minimum of five (5) credit level passes at the O’ level, including Mathematics and English Language; or its equivalent at not more than two sittings; or
  2. a minimum of merit in National Diploma in a recognized higher institution, in addition to the above-mentioned O’ level requirements in (1) above.

 

  • 5-YEAR DEGREE SANDWICH PROGRAMME

 

The University also offers a 5-Year Sandwich Degree Progrmame for Holders of WASCE/GCE/NECO, NABTEB; Teachers Grade II Certificate, NCE and National Diploma.

 

Candidates seeking for admission into the 5-year degree programme must possess the following:

 

  1. Pass in NCE, and a minimum of five (5) credit level passes in O’ Level or its equivalent at not more than two sittings; or

 

  1. Five (5) credit level passes at the SSCE O’ Level at not more than two (2) sittings which must include Mathematics and English or both; as required by the respective programmes, or its equivalent.

 

METHOD OF APPLICATION

 

  1. All candidates who wish to apply for the Programmes listed above should do so through JAMB (State Office) and make the University of Nigeria, Nsukka their first choice institution. This is to enable JAMB capture details of the candidates, assign them registration numbers and make them available in JAMB CAPSfor the University to be able to download their lists.
  2. After the JAMB registration, candidate returns to the University of Nigeria portal/website, www.unn.edu.ng and generates the “Sandwich Registration Invoice” and proceeds to any Commercial Bank and pays the processing fee of N5,000.00 (five thousand naira only) for the 4-year programme and N10,000.00 (ten thousand naira only) for the 5-year programme, respectively. The processing fee is payable to the University’s Account via the Remita platform.

 

  1. After the payment, candidate returns to the University of Nigeria portal and click on Sandwich Registration and complete the Verification Form on-line; and thereafter prints out the completed Registration Form and submits it with academic credentials to the Sandwich and Evening Programmes Unit Office of the Registrar’s Department.

 

Please note that candidates that apply for the 5-Year Degree Programme will be required to write an aptitude test in the University.

The Innovation in TVET Research Project Group working under the University of Nigeria Nsukka UNEVOC Centre is presently training 25 youths in three trades for three months. The trades are Carpentry (10 trainees), Electrical Installation (10 Trainees), and Masonry (5 Trainees). The training was attracted by Dr. Ifeanyi B. Ohanu who is the facilitator of research and training at the University of Nigeria Nsukka UNEVOC Centre. The training started on 19th December 2022 and is expected to end by 31st March, 2023. The training is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. At the end of the training (31st March 2023), each trainee will receive a starter pack (containing tool box; safety wears such as safety shoes, coverall, helmet, hand gloves; and almost the tools required to start their trade) which are already delivered to our UNEVOC Centre by the Federal Government. All the 25 trainees are also expected to receive their transport allowance for 3months from the Federal Government. Some of the pictures are shown below:

Project T-MAX Sponsored by the Special Adviser to the President on Education Matters

The Innovation in TVET Research Project Group working under the University of Nigeria Nsukka UNEVOC Centre trained 150 youths in Tailoring/Fashion Designing for three months under Project T-MAX. PROJECT T-MAX, a Federal Government Technical & Vocational Education & Training (TVET) Programme. Project T-MAX means Project TVET Maximization.. The training was attracted by Dr. Ifeanyi B. Ohanu who is the facilitator of research and training at the University of Nigeria Nsukka UNEVOC Centre. The training started on 28th November 2022 and ended on 22nd February, 2023. The training is sponsored by the Federal Government through the Office of The Special Adviser to the President on Education Matters. Out of 150 youths trained, about 40% are expected to be given starter pack once they are sent to our UNEVOC Centre.  All the 150 trainees are also expected to receive their transport allowance for 3months from the Federal Government. DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS FOR TETFUND INSTITUTIONAL BASED RESEARCH (IBR) PROJECTS

  1. The under listed applicants (55 Nos.) whose research proposals were selected and recommended to TETFund for funding under Institution-Based Research (IBR) Intervention are hereby notified that their funds are ready for disbursement.

 

  1. Please note that the amount disbursed represent 60% first tranche of the total cost of the project. The second tranche payment of 40% will only be released when the Researcher must have published at least one article from the findings of the research in any referred Journal with impact factor of at least 3 (three) and above, evidence of which should be submitted to TETfund.

 

  1. TETFund should be acknowledged as the sponsor of the research in a footnote in the first page of a paper citing the research project no. (TETF/DR&D/CE/UNI/NSUKKA/BR/2020/VOL.I)

 

  1. The Lead Researcher to open an IBR Bank account into which the funds will be credited.

 

  1. Quarterly progress reports by the researchers be forwarded to the Fund for monitoring purposes. The quarterly reports should be regularly submitted until the entire intervention is completed and closed out.

 

  1. Upon completion of the Research Projects, you are expected to forward to TETFund a close out/completion report (including copies of the financial receipts obtained in respect of the Research Projects). You are also required to forward three (3 Nos.) bound copies of the Research Report for the Research Project within three (3) months of completion.

 

  1. You should please insert in the application for release of approved fund a statement of commitment to fully comply with the above stated conditions.

Applications are invited from interested candidates into the Central Bank of Nigeria Collaborative Postgraduate Programmes (CBN-CPP). The CBN-CPP, which is the Central Bank of Nigeria’s flagship intervention in tertiary education offers quality postgraduate education devoid of disruptions. ELIGIBILITY
The CBN-CPP is open to everyone willing to pursue enduring academic and professional careers in the relevant disciplines in both the private and public sectors. Specifically, the programme is meant for:
(i) applicants from relevant public sector organizations; (ii) applicants attached to, or being sponsored by private institutions, or organizations as part of their staff development programmes, and
(iii) independent applicants on self-sponsorship.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Interested candidates must possess a minimum of Second-Class Honours (Lower Division) Bachelor’s Degree in related fields and must have completed the mandatory NYSC Programme.

DURATION AND MODE OF STUDY
The duration of each programme shall be a maximum of four (4) semesters and strictly full time uninterrupted studies. It shall consist of teaching/course work, research (dissertation), oral/written examination, and case studies.

AWARD OF DEGREE/ GRADUATION
Graduation requirements shall be as determined by the University Senate and subject to meeting the minimum academic requirements prescribed by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program to Support Projects at Universities across Africa
Nsukka, May, 2023 – August 2023.
University of Nigeria, Nsukka was selected by the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP)
to host an African Diaspora scholar from the United States to work with on a collaborative project on
women’s music relating to motherhood and transnationalism of such music in addition to providing
relevant research workshop for graduate students in Department of Music. Arts Faculty member/Host
Fellow, Professor Christian Onyeji, will lead the Project, together with Dr Ruth Opara, the Diaspora
Fellow from Syracuse University in USA.
The two-pronged project would involve a collaborative research on indigenous women’s music in Nigeria
with specific interest in music and motherhood, and mentoring of graduate students in music at the
University of Nigeria. In collaboration with the Diaspora expert, our focus on music, motherhood, and
women’s role in the Nigerian Civil War Nigeria would complement and give focus to scholarship on
music and women’s roles in Nigeria to expand the breadth of the research in the department and result in
innovative and collaborative papers. Quite clearly, women’s music, particularly motherhood and women’s
role in the Nigerian Civil War have largely been under-reported/researched. Scholars have not paid
congruent attention to the musical responses and productions of women as strong contributors to
indigenous music productions, and to understand their critical musical roles during the Nigerian Civil
war. This project seeks to deliberately engage in the research, documentation and discourse of the musical
contributions and roles of women during the Civil War through transcriptions, analysis and discourses to
mitigate the total disappearance of such music that are threatened by extinction. These are intended to
culminate in book and journal article publications. This project keys into the strategic vision of my
university to engage in cutting edge research for quality and high-impact publications in various
disciplines. This project also seeks to provide graduate students needed training, through workshops and
mentoring, on various aspects of music research and scholarship as well as opportunities for possible
research collaborations with international experts and scholars. This project is expected to make strong

contributions and impact on the scholarship and research activities of the staff and students of University
of Nigeria, Nsukka, the host institution, and the collaborating scholars in the immediate and long-term
basis. The research collaboration being motivated by the need to explore an inchoate area of music and
motherhood, will drive several discourses and publications that would enrich existing literature on
women’s music globally, impacting resources on the subject area in general.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, project is one of 63 projects that will pair African Diaspora scholars
with higher education institutions and collaborators in Africa to work together on curriculum co-
development, collaborative research, graduate training and mentoring activities in the coming months.
The CADFP, now in its tenth year develop long-term, mutually-beneficial collaborations between
universities in Africa and the United States and Canada. It is funded by Carnegie Corporation of New
York and managed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in collaboration with the Association
of African Universities (AAU). Nearly 600 African Diaspora Fellowships have now been awarded for
scholars to travel to Africa since the program’s inception in 2013.
Fellowships match host universities with African-born scholars and cover the expenses for project visits
of between 14 and 90 days, including transportation, a daily stipend, and the cost of obtaining visas and
health insurance.

GENERAL ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Candidates for admission into any postgraduate programme of the University must:

  1. Have obtained 5 credits at not more than two sittings in WASC or GCE or NECO or NABTEB including English Language.
  2. Candidates shall also possess the minimum entry requirements for admission into the first degree and postgraduate programmes in their areas of interest for postgraduate studies.
  • Candidate must be graduates of the University of Nigeria or other recognized Universities who possess the above qualifications.
  1. For the PGD in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Architecture, only candidates with University degrees in relevant areas need apply.

 

  1. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

The following may qualify for Postgraduate Diploma admission:

  • Graduates of the University of Nigeria or other recognized universities who have obtained a degree of bachelor with at least a third class honours with at least 2.0 GPA on 5-point scale. For Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration, candidates with at least third class honours degree with at least 2.0 on 5-point scale in Arts, the Social Sciences, Law, Business Administration or Education. Candidates from disciplines not mentioned above should in addition, possess a minimum of three years cognate post-qualification experience in administrative/managerial positions. For PGD in Business Administration, the 3rd Class Honours must be from Business Administration.

(ii)        Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with a 3.50 Grade Point Average on a five-point scale or its equivalent may be admitted. For Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration, candidates who hold other professional qualifications such as Associate Institute of Bankers, Associate Certified Chartered Accountants, Associate Cost and Management Accountants, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Chartered Professional Accountants, Associate Chartered Institute of Accountants, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria etc. have added advantage for admission. Candidates with professional qualifications, including HND, should have obtained pre-professional qualifications, including 5 credits in WASC or GCE O/L or NECO to satisfy the basic University entry requirement, for admission for degree courses in their respective departments.

(iii)       In addition to (i) or (ii) above, in special cases, candidates may be admitted after passing such tests as may be prescribed by the Department/Faculty.

(iv)    Candidates who hold other qualifications considered equivalent to the above and acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate Studies and Senate of the University may be admitted.

FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE

Entry Requirements: Nutrition and Dietetics (PGD)

For PGD programme in Nutrition and Dietetics, candidates must have any of the following qualifications from recognized institutions:

  1. HND in Nutrition and Dietetics with a minimum of Upper Credit or Third Class Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with at least 2.0 GPA on 5-point scale.
  2. Sc in Nutrition and Dietetics: Candidates seeking admission into M.Sc in Nutrition and Dietectics must have obtained as follows:
  1. HND (Upper Credit) in Nutrition and/or Dietetics with PGD (Credit level and above) in Human Nutrition and/or Dietetics.
  2. Bachelor’s degree with at least 2nd Class Honours (Lower Division) in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  3. Bachelor’s degree in related disciplines with a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division) and PGD in Nutrition and Dietetics at credit level and above in addition to satisfying the University matriculation requirements.
    1. D or M.Sc/Ph.D: Candidates seeking admission for Ph.D degree programme or M.Sc/Ph.D programme in Human Nutrition and Dietetics must have any of the follow qualifications from recognized institution:
  4. Master’s degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics with at least GPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale.

Department of Home Science

  1. PGD: Candidates seeking admission for PGD in Home Science must have any of the following qualifications from recognized institution:

HND in Home Science or Home Economics or in  relevant fields with a minimum of Upper Credit, or Third class Bachelor’s degree in Home Science or Home Economics with at least 2.0 GPA on 5-point scale.

  1. Sc: Candidates seeking admission into the Master of Science programme in Home Science must have any of the following qualifications from recognized institutions:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Home Science or related discipline with a minimum of Second Class honours (Lower Division).
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Home Science or related discipline with 3rd class honours degree plus PGD passed at Upper Credit level and above.
  3. HND Upper Credit in Home Science or related disciplines plus PGD at Credit level in the same area in addition to satisfying University matriculation requirements.
  4. Ph.D or M.Sc/Ph.D: Candidates seeking admission into Ph.D or M.Sc/Ph.D programme in Home Science must have Master’s Degree in Home Science/Home Economics or related discipline from recognized Institution with at least 3.50 GPA on 5-point scale.
  5. MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMME

The following shall qualify for Master’s Degree admission:

 

  • Graduates of the University of Nigeria or of other recognized universities who have obtained the Bachelor’s degree in relevant disciplines with at least a second class honours with not less than 2.50 GPA;
  • Candidates with relevant Postgraduate Diplomas from the University of Nigeria or any other recognized university with at least credit level passes with a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale or 3.0 on 4-point scale;
  • Candidates whose first degrees are unclassified but have average score of 50% or above;
  • For M.Ed. degree programmes, candidates with at least a good second class single honours degree in teaching subjects plus at least a merit level pass at Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or those who hold a third class honours degree in teaching subjects plus Postgraduate Diploma in Education passed at credit level or above;
  • For MPA degree programme, candidates should, in addition to (i) and (ii) above, be serving administrative/managerial staff in the Public or Private sector with a at least two years post-qualification cognate experience;
  • Holders of professional Fellowship qualifications such a FIMLT, FNILT, NIPR, or their equivalents obtained through examination. However, candidates with the professional certificates listed above must have worked as Senior Technologist(s) or in equivalent position(s) for at least three years;
  • For MD degree Programme in the Department of Medicine: Possession of the Fellowship in Medicine from the National Postgraduate Medical College or its equivalent, or At least an M.Sc. degree in the relevant discipline in which research work predominates, from a recognized university after obtaining the MBBS or its equivalent. The Master’s degree must be with a GPA of at least 3.50 on 5-point scale or 3.00 on 4-point scale in the relevant medical science.
  • For M.Sc. degree programme in the Department of Medicine applicant must hold a degree in Medicine (MBBS, MBBCh) from the University Nigeria or any other recognized University.
  • For MPH degree programme, candidates should in addition to (i) above, have at least three years relevant post qualification experience or at least a Second Class Honours degree in Nursing Sciences, Sociology and Social Work, Psychology, Medical Mircobiology, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Health Education, Pharmacy, DVM, MBBS and BDS. For MPH Degree Programme, the Department will screen the candidates further and base their recommendation on such screening result.
  • Candidates who hold qualifications other than those listed above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University of Nigeria.
  1. DOCTORATE DEGREE (Ph.D.)PROGRAMME

 

Candidates from the University of Nigeria or from other recognized Universities who have obtained Master’s degree appropriate for the proposed areas of study shall qualify for Doctorate Degree admission. Specifically:

  • A minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale, GPA of 3.0 on 4-point scale is required for admission into Ph.D programme in all Departments except those departments listed in C(ii) below:
  • A minimum GPA of 4.0 on a 5-point scale is required for admission into Ph.D programmes in the following Departments/Faculties: Music, Economics, Public Administration and Local Government, Psychology and Faculties of Education, Medical Sciences, Health Sciences and Technology and Business Administration.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or a B (60%) average at Master’s degree average provided that satisfactory research work for med part of the Master’s Degree programme.
  1. MASTER’S/Ph.D. DEGREE PROGRAMME
  • A candidate with first class honours from a recognized University may be admitted into a Master’s/Ph.D. programme in his/her discipline. (see Postgraduate Regulation for details)
  • A candidate with Master’s degree from a recognized University with at least a GPA of 3.50 on 5-point scale or 3.00 on 4-point scale who wishes to do Ph.D degree in a related area or department shall qualify for the Master’s/Ph.D. Any candidate who is not qualified for Ph.D admission on account of low GPA is still not qualified for admission into Master’s/Ph.D. programme.
  • For Faculties and Departments where the possession of Master’s degree with 4.00 points GPA on 5-point scale and above is the condition for Ph.D admission, applicants with Master’s degree GPA of 3.50 and above, but not up to 4.00 may apply for Master’s/Ph.D admission. On completion of Master’s degree coursework specified by the Department, the candidate shall be qualified for a firm Ph.D registration if he or she attains the GPA of 4.00 in the Master’s courses.

NOTE: A candidate admitted into Master’s/Ph.D programme has two options: First, he could complete the Master’s degree programme and then apply to continue with the Doctoral programme without completing a new application form if he/she passes the Master degree with a minimum of 3.50 or 4.0 GPA on a 5-point scale depending on the Department/Faculty. Secondly, the student’s general performance in the course work could be evaluated after the first two semesters of being on the Masters’/Ph.D programme. If the student makes a GPA of 3.50 or 4.0 and above in the coursework (as applicable to the Department/Faculty), Senate on the recommendations of Departmental and Faculty Postgraduate Studies Committees and the Board of the School may approve that the candidate proceeds to Ph.D programme without fully completing the Master’s degree programme.

SANDWICH POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

  1. M.Ed. Sandwich programmes of the Faculty of Education is offered in the following Departments: Adult Education; Arts Education; Science Education; Human Kinetics and Health Education (Health Education, Physical Education & Recreation options); Social Science Education; and Vocational Teacher Education.

M.Ed. Sandwich programme – Faculty of Education

MLS degree programme is available in the Department of Library & Information Science.

Sandwich Postgraduate Diploma is offered in the Institute of Education (PGDE), Vocational Teacher Education (PGDTE) and Library & Information Science (PGDL).

DURATION OF COURSES

  • Postgraduate Diploma
  • Postgraduate Diploma (Regular) – Two semesters
  • Postgraduate Diploma (Sandwich) – Three Long Vacations
  • Master’s degree (Regular) :

A minimum of 3 semesters for full-time and 5 semesters for part-time in all Departments/Faculties except for the Departments/Faculties listed below:

A minimum of 4 semesters for Full-time and 6 semesters for part-time for the following Departments/Faculties: Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration and Local Government (PALG), Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Education and Business Administration.

  • Ed. (Sandwich) – three long vacations.

(d)     Ph.D. degree Programme –A minimum of six semester for full time and eight semesters for part time in all Faculties except Agriculture which is has minimum of four semesters for full time and six semesters for part time. Ph.D. programme is not run as a Sandwich programme.

Candidates are expected to complete their programmes at the minimum duration, but not to exceed the maximum duration (See Postgraduate Regulations).

REGISTRATION – For Regular/Sandwich programmes, Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s and Doctorate degree programme, candidates are considered for admission once in a session. Regular students are expected to register their postgraduate courses within four weeks from the commencement of the session.  Candidates admitted for sandwich programmes are expected to register not later than two weeks from the commencement of the sandwich session.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Application Forms can be obtained ONLINE on payment of a non-refundable fee ofN26,700.00 (Twenty six, seven hundred naira only) made payable to “The University of Nigeria Postgraduate Application Fees Account, at any bank within the country using the Remita platform. Below is the process flow for the application:

  • Login to the UNN Portal- unnportal.unn.edu.ng
  • Go to postgraduate students
  • Select PG form for 2020/2021
  • Enter your telephone number.
  • Fill in your basic details.
  • Generate Invoice with RRR.
  • Make payments using the online channel or at the bank.
  • Come back to online form.
  • Fill the PG online application form.
  • Upload all necessary credentials in PDF.
  • Complete referee form. (Enter correct Emails).
  • Check the complete details
  • Submit form.

Please note that with the exception of the transcript, you are not expected to submit hard copies of application materials to the school of Postgraduate Studies.

 

 

REFEREE REPORTS

When completing the application form, the candidates shall supply the e-mail addresses of their referees through which a link will be sent to the referees with request to complete the Report Form in respect of the candidate and submit online.

TRANSCRIPTS

Candidates should download transcript request forms (D2) also provided online, and submit to their former Universities/Institutions to forward their academic transcript(s) to “The Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka” to reach  him/her not later than 31st July, 2023 . Candidates whose transcripts are not received on or before the deadline by the School shall not have their application forms processed.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

All information required would be completed online except the transcript. Copies of qualifying certificates/statement of result and NYSC discharge certificate (Exemption or Exclusion Certificate) are to be attached. Note that To Whom It May Concern shall not be accepted in lieu of the certificates specified above.

CLOSING DATE

Application starts from Monday, 13th February, 2023 and closes on Monday, 31th July, 2023.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL APPLICANTS

  1. All applicants will undergo computer based postgraduate admission screening.
  2. Date for the Postgraduate Admission Screening will be announced later.
  3. NOTE: For Ph.D degree programme, a candidate must have published at least an article from his/her Ph.D thesis in a journal certified by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka as a condition for graduation.

2023 HYBRID INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IDENTITY POLITICS, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS AND POLICY OPTIONS IN AFRICA

More than 60 years after independence by several states in Africa, the narratives, facts, and figures regarding development crises in the continent have remained dissatisfying and in fact humiliating. In
many cases, policy options in majority of African states are determined by ethnic, religious, and other divisive identity options, rather than by planned efforts to improve human lives and wellbeing on the
continent. Despite these negative indices, several scholars of African origin are bent on spreading theories to the effect that persons and groups have been conspiring against Africa. By doing this, such
authors play down on the extremely negative impacts of misdirected identity politics on policy adoptions and implementation in Africa, and on human development. It has become urgent to improve
our self-reflexive understanding of the effects of identity politics on sustainable development and policy processes in Africa. We are therefore inviting researchers and practitioners from the arts,
humanities, social sciences, and indeed all disciplines of human enterprise around the globe, to participate in this reflection. Some of the questions we aim to address during the conference are: How
can identity politics in its widest form of conceptualization, enhance our understanding of justice, migration policies, and international relations in Africa and beyond? How is the same principle a key to
understanding and realizing each of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? Can reflections on identity politics provide new perspectives and frameworks for understanding recurrent issues
addressed by scholars in African studies in general, and philosophical engagements in Africa, in particular? To what extent is identity politics a weakening cloak attached to the nature and
