UNN Organises a Dinner for Retired UNICEF Partner
UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA
DIRECTORATE OF INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION
OFFICE OF THE VICE-CHANCELLOR
Director: Professor Chikelue Ofuebe +234 803 878 1661
UNN ORGANISES A DINNER FOR RETIRED UNICEF PARTNER
The University of Nigeria, through Directorate of International Collaboration (Office of the Vice Chancellor) organised an appreciation dinner on the night of Friday, 10th September 2021 at the Presidential Lodge, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, by 7pm for Dr Ken Ozoemenam, former Social Policy Specialist, UNICEF ‘A’ Field Office, Enugu, who has gone on voluntary retirement after a meritorious service with the development institution.
Dr Ozoemenam, an alumnus, was singularly responsible for institutionalizing a fruitful working partnership between this University and UNICEF, which actually culminated in UNICEF supporting this institution to establish postgraduate programmes in Social Policy. Thus, the dinner was a way of further extending a warm hand of fellowship and appreciation to UNICEF.
The Programme Director, UNICEF-Supported Programmes in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Chikelue Ofuebe, facilitated the Dinner programme, which was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Arizechukwu Igwe. A select group of University functionaries were in attendance.
The UNICEF delegation was led by Mr Hilary Ozor (Communication Specialist), and included Wakidara Akilu (Social Policy Officer), Nwamaka Chude, and Ishaku Abubakar. They came with a goodwill message from the Chief of Field Office, UNICEF, Enugu, Dr Ibrahim Conteh.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor expressed his deep appreciation to Dr. Ken Ozoemenam and to the entire UNICEF team for engaging the University of Nigeria as a partner in their development activities and programmes. He also promised to provide all the needed support to ensure that the collaboration of the University with all the development partners will continue to yield fruitful results for the good of humanity.
Other representatives of the University that spoke during the Dinner included, Professor Pat Uche Okpoko (DVC Administation), Professor Romanus Ezeokonkwo (Ag. Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies), Professor Anthonia Achike (Director, Gender and Development Centre), and Professor Okey Ikeanyibe (Department of Public Administration and Local Gonernment).
In his response, the Special Guest of Honour, Dr. Ken Ozoemenam expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, the Programme Director, UNICEF-Supported Programmes and to the entire University Community for the unusual honour accorded him during the occasion. According to him, “It was simply amazing and overwhelming”. He also appreciated the gifts and the accolades given to him by the University and also promised to keep the relationship more fruitful even as he moves to the next phase of his life.
The programme ended gloriously after a sumptuous dinner and with a closing prayer said by Dr. Tony Orji of the Department of Economics.
