DERMATOVENEREOLOGY CONCEPT NOTE
Name of the Group:  DERMATOVENEREOLOGY(DV) RESEARCH GROUP
Research focus:  To initiate, sustain and conclude research in the areas of dermatology and venereology with periodic reassessments.  Our main thrust will be clinical dermatology and sexually transmitted infections. Attempts will also be made to expand the scope of activities and vary areas of concentration depending on recent advances in the fields aforementioned. We also have a strong interest in genetic basis of diseases in these fields.
Members:
Dr Gladys A Ozoh is a practising dermatovenereologist. She qualified 1989 with the Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians and appointed a lecturer/honorary consultant in 1991 by the University of Nigeria/University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital.
She has been actively practising in this field since then and has been strongly involved in the teaching of medical and postgraduate students. She has supervised many postgraduate fellowship works and is a current examiner with West African Postgraduate Medical College. She is the Chairperson of dermatology subspecialty curriculum committee of the West African Postgraduate Medical College and an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Nigerian Association of Dermatologists (NAD) and is in the endorsement subcommittee of NAD. She is also an honourary consultant to the Tropical Disease Research (TDR) Agency of WHO.
She has been Coordinator of the sub-department of Dermatology severally, her last tenure ended in 2013.
Areas of research interest include albinism, onchodermatitis and leprosy.
Dr Chinwe L Onyekonwu is a practising dermatovenereologist. She qualified 2005 with the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and appointed a lecturer/honorary consultant in 2007 by the University of Nigeria/University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla.
She has been practicing dermatology and venereology and has also been working actively in HIV Medicine. She teaches medical and postgraduate students, has supervised some postgraduate works and is a member of several local and international professional groups including the Nigerian Association of Dermatologists (NAD) and American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). She is the assistant secretary of the NAD and a member of the International Affairs Committee of the AAD. She has a Master of Public Health from the University of Liverpool.
She is the present coordinator of the sub-department of dermatology.
Her areas of research interest include HIV mucocutaneous diseases, sexually transmitted infections, psoriasis and pigmentary disorders.
Dr Uche R Ojinmah is a practising dermatovenereologist. He qualified 2010 with the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and was appointed a lecturer/honorary consultant in 2011 by the University of Nigeria/University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla.
He has been practicing dermatology and venereology and teaches medical and postgraduate students. He has supervised some postgraduate works and is a member of several local and international professional groups including the Nigerian Association of Dermatologists (NAD). He is a past president of Association of Resident Doctors, UNTH and National Association of Resident Doctors, former National 2nd Vice President of Nigerian Medical Association and currently a member of the Management Board of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu.
He deputises for the current Coordinator of the sub-department of Dermatology.
Areas of research interest include Albinism, herpes simplex virus type 2 infections, keloids and psoriasis.
