MOLECULAR AND ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY RESEARCH GROUP

PREAMBLE: The Molecular and Environmental Toxicology Research Group is a multidisciplinary research group comprised of academic and non academic staff of the College of Medicine and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The aim of the group is to study the mechanisms of action of environmental toxicants on humans and other organisms and the environmental activities of these toxicants.

FOCUS: Mechanisms related to the origin and fate of chemicals in the environment and changes induced by toxicants in humans, animals, and plants; and environmental impact assessment.

COMPOSITION OF THE GROUP: The chairman of the Molecular and Environmental Toxicology Research Group is Prof. Elvis N. Shu (elvis.shu@unn.edu.ng; +234 803 317 0257) of the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics, College of Medicine, a pharmacologist with a wide range of research experience in health research and toxicology. He has published prodigiously in peer-reviewed journals. Prof Iroka J Udeinya (Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics) and Dr Chukwugozie Okwuosa (Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences) are acting as vice-chairman and project manager, respectively. Other core members of the group are Dr Ignatius C. Maduka (Department of Chemical Pathology), Freddy C. Otuu (Department of Pharmaceutics) and Pharmacist Mrs Nkemjika Uwaezuoke (Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics).

  • Waste to Wealth- the Nigeria Experience.
  • Air Quality studies.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment Studies.
