Institutionalization of Indigent Students Scholarship in the University of Nigeria
During the tenure of Mr. Emmanuel Ukala (SAN), the erstwhile Pro–Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, a scholarship scheme named “Ukala Scholarship Scheme for Indigent Students of the University of Nigeria” was instituted. Experience at the interview panels for the selection of the candidates for the scholarship has been very rewarding in terms of understanding the level of destitutions among these students.
With end of the tenure of Mr. Emmanuel Ukala (SAN) as the Pro–Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, it seems, most regrettably, that this noble scholarship scheme which has alleviated so much misery among out students has come to the end. This scheme should not die.
The University of Nigeria Administration has agreed to continue with the scholarship through “Adopt a Student Initiative” but due to paucity of fund presently, the University cannot sustain the scholarship without recourse to the public–spirited Individuals for assistance.
This is to appeal to public–spirited Persons/Alumni within and outside Nigeria to please come to the aid of our indigent students in the University of Nigeria by keying into the “Adopt a Student Initiative”, through endowment of Education Fund/Foundation within the University. The proceeds from the seed money will be utilized for the Scheme while the potential students in need of the assistance will apply to the Registrar, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the applications in turn subjected to rigorous screening through interview in orer to identify the ones in most need of assistance.
Please direct your responses to the Registrar, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
God bless you.
