FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP

THEME: RESEARCH PROCESS IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES

VENUE: SOCIOLOGY BUILDING, FACULTY OF THE SOCIAL SCIENCES, UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA NSUKKA

The Faculty of Social Sciences is organising a one-day pre-conference workshop as part of its 2019 Annual International Conference on 10th and 11th July, 2019. The pre-conference will provide a forum for doctoral students and early career scholars undertaking research related to the social science discipline to interactively discuss their research with their peers, colleagues and leading scholars in the social sciences.

The workshop will provide graduate/doctoral students an opportunity to learn the conceptual and analytical issues involved in research data application. The workshop will guide the participants in how data can best be analysed and interpreted based on the research objectives and variables of the study; how to development conceptual framework; how to choose and apply appropriate statistical models to their data; how to present and interpret statistical results; test hypothesis, and how to integrate quantitative and qualitative data.

Topics to be covered are:

Ø  Basics of research proposal

Ø  Descriptive and Causal Studies in Social Sciences

Ø  Quantitative and Qualitative data collection methods

Ø  Types of statistics used in Social Science disciplines

Ø  Quantitative data analysis using sundry statistics

Ø  Qualitative data analysis

Ø  Writing Research Report

Ø  Ethics in Research
