CHILD DENTAL HEALTH-HISTORY

The Department of Child Dental Health consists of two units: Orthodontics and Paedodontics.

The Department was created in the year 2005, with the employment of Dr (Mrs) Nkiruka Folaranmi as Lecturer 1 and Consultant Orthodontist. Thus she became the first pioneer staff and was appointed as the first acting head of department. Dr. Emmanuel O.O. Amobi who was employed on 30th November, 2004 later joined the Department of Child Dental Health (Paedodontics Unit) by transfer from the Department of Preventive Dentistry with effect from Monday 12th March, 2007.

It is worthy of note that this department which started from an empty room space can now conveniently run it’s affair from a well furnished office, courtesy of the University.

However with the new Faculty of Dentistry office complex the department now has a wing of seven rooms to accommodate both the head of department’s office and offices for staff.

Currently there are six lecturers, two technologists and three administrative staff.

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT

The philosophy and objective of the Department is to train dental graduates to acquire knowledge, attitudes and skills that will enable them to perform as general duty dental officers in any part of Nigeria and beyond.
