Abstract
New dyestuffs derived from new heterocyclic ring systems have been synthesized. The parent heterocycle, dibenzo [a,j][ 1,4] benzothiazino[3,2-c] phenoxazine was prepared in one case from 2-aminothiophenol, 1-phenylazo-2-naphthol (Solvent Yellow 14) and 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphtho-quinone. Also synthesized were two monoaza analogues and one diaza analogue. Nitration and sulphonation reactions of the parent heterocycle gave the mononitro and sulpho derivatives. The toxicities (as LD50) and fastness properties of these dyes were also evaluated. They were found to be satisfactory as disperse dyes for polyester and nylon and were also useful for the colouration of soaps, plastics and waxes.
