Main Research Focus and other areas of research interest: Environmental sustainability, environmental conservation, environmental chemistry, waste recycling, remediation of polluted environment, renewable energy, bioprocessing and biodiversity.

 

Description of RG:

Bioenergy, Bioprocess and Environmental Conservation Research Group is based at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN). Members of the research group are staff and postgraduate students with interest in Environmental science, Industrial Microbiology and biotechnology, and environmental chemistry. The research group areas of focus are in Environmental sustainability, environmental conservation, environmental chemistry, waste recycling, remediation of polluted environment, renewable energy, bioprocess and biodiversity

 

Current research projects:

  • Development of a microbial consortia for polyethylene degradation.
  • Quantifying the biodiversity drivers of the forests in the South East region.
  • Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of plastics and food wastes

  • Anene Moneke: He is a professor of industrial and environmental microbiology, in the department of Microbiology, UNN. He is also the current Director of the Centre for Environmental Management and Control, UNN. https://www.unn.edu.ng/internals/files/staff_CV/4474_Moneke_Anene.pdf
  • Solomon Odiba: He possesses a Master of Science in Biochemistry (Biomedicine Proteomics and Biotechnology), and a PhD in Biochemistry. He is also a lecturer in the Department of Molecular genetics and biotechnology, UNN https://www.unn.edu.ng/internals/staff/viewProfile/MTk2Ng–
  • Chukwuemeka Samson Ahamefuna: He is a PhD holder in Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. He is a lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, UNN.
  • Chukwuemeka Cornelius Ezeh: He has a Master of Science in Microbiology (Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology). He is currently pursuing a PhD. programme in Environmental Management and Control. He is also a lecturer in the Department of Microbiology.
  • Ifeanyi Adolphus Ucheana: He holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Management and an M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry. He is a Technologist at UNN and his research interests include Bioenergy, Bioprocess, Energy Conservation Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Food Chemistry, and Green Chemistry.
  • Stanley Nwoke: He holds a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry, and a M.Sc. degree in Analytical Chemistry. He is a Laboratory Technologist and Chemical Analyst at UNN.
  • Chinonye Jennifer Obi: She has an M.Sc. degree in Environmental Microbiology and currently pursuing her Ph.D. programme in Environmental Management and Control.
