 CONCEPT NOTE

  1. Introduction

Post- harvest Engineering and Technology or Food and Bioprocess Engineering is an important stress area in Agricultural & Bioresources Engineering. The need for properly focused research in this area formed the basis for the formation of a research team that will champion relevant postharvest research and development for Nigerian agricultural and bio-resources products. Post- harvest Technology Research Group (PTERG) was therefore formed by lecturers and post graduate students in this core area.

 

  1. Research Focus

The research focus of PTERG include: characterization of important and major Nigerian agricultural and bioresources raw products, development of value-addition processes, and development and patenting of postharvest technologies for the products.

  1. Brief CV of Members

Engr. S.L. Ezeoha (B.Eng., M. Eng. –Agricultural Engineering) is a professional Agricultural Engineer; member, Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (MNIAE); member, Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE); member, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (MASABE); registered engineer, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Currently, he is a lecturer in the Department of Agricultural & Bioresources Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His research interests include processing and storage of agricultural products, development of machines for processing of local crops, farm steads development, agricultural waste management, food and bioprocess studies, renewable energy studies, agricultural and bioresources mechanization strategies and systems. He teaches on the B.Eng. and M.Eng. Studies programme. He has worked in several local government areas of Enugu state of Nigeria as a Local Government Chief Engineer and Head of Works, Housing, Roads and Transport Department. Dr. Cosmas Anyanwu, MSc. (Chem. Engineer), PhD (Agric. Eng.) is an engineer with in-depth knowledge of renewable energy research, especially in the fields of biomass, solar thermal technologies etc. He is a member Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (MNSChE), member Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE) and a COREN Registered Engineer (R25849). He has taught food and bioprocess engineering and renewable energy courses since 2006. His current research interests include biomass and waste-to-energy conversion processes, stove design/testing, gasification, biodiesel etc. He has served as a consultant to the German International Co-operation Agency (GIZ) as well as the International Centre for Energy, Environment and Development (ICEED) on various renewable energy projects. He represents the Nigerian Technical Committee on Clean Cookstoves and Cooking Solutions in the Technical Committee (TC 285) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Asoiro, Felix Uzochukwu (B.Eng., M. Eng. – Agricultural Engineering) is a lecturer in the Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is a member Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (MNIAE) and a member, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (MASABE). He has teaches food engineering, renewable energy and introductory engineering course to undergraduate students in the department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering and the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His research interests include: Food Bioprocess and Storage Engineering, Optimization of oil extraction of Nigerian fresh water microalgae, Effects of cultivation systems and extraction temperature on oil extraction of Nigerian fresh water microalgae, Renewable bio-energy with emphasis on non- edible feedstock, Physical, mechanical and thermal properties of biomaterials with emphasis on indigenous local crops. Aneke, Nneoma Nkem (Nee Chime) (B.Sc. Agric. Engineering) is a graduate assistant in the Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State.
