GEOPHYSICS/ATMOSPHERIC PHYSICS AND SPACE RESEARCH GROUP

CONCEPT NOTE
NAME OF RESEARCH GROUP: GEOPHYSICS/ATMOSPHERIC PHYSICS AND SPACE RESEARCH GROUP

BACKGROUND:
The Geophysics/Atmospheric Physics and Space Research Group (GASRG) is a research group based at the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The underlining philosophy of the group isthat the Earth is a coupled system from the subsurface structures of the Earth to the boundaries of the magnetosphere.
RESEARCH FOCUS:
The group conducts research/studies of solar terrestrial interaction, investigating phenomena of solid earth geophysics, and their relation to ionospheric geophysics.  Climate change variability.  In geophysics research, the group has been working in the areas of geomagnetic field variability, geophysical prospecting, aeromagnetic studies, upper mantle conductivity mapping from the ionospheric Sq current. In atmospheric Physics research, the group has been investigating the role of El-Niño and La-Niña, Ozone and Solar activity in climate change and variability. The group also conducts research in solar-terrestrial interactions, and Cosmic ray phenomena in the geospace.
