FACULTY/DEPARTMENTAL ORIENTATION PROGRAMMES FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS ADMITTED IN 2016/2017 SESSION

 

In accordance with the revised 2016/2017 Time Table of Events of the School of Postgraduate Studies, the Faculties, Departments and Institutes/Centres are required to organize orientation programmes for their fresh postgraduate students admitted in the 2016/2017 session on 24^th April, 2017.

 

Concept Note:

The orientation programme should be designed to familiarise the newly admitted students with the University and its postgraduate programmes.  It should also provide a forum to enlighten the students on the postgraduate rules/regulations, and introduce them to the available facilities/ resources at Departmental and Faculty levels.  Furthermore, the students are to be exposed to motivational ideas that will make for successful studentship in the University of Nigeria.

 

Programme of the Orientation:

 

24^th April, 2017: 8a.m – 10a.m – Orientation at the Departmental Level

–     8.00a.m – 8.05 a.m –   8.05a.m – 8.20 a.m –   8.20a.m – 8.40 a.m –   8.40a.m – 9.00 a.m –   9.00a.m – 9.20 a.m –   9.20a.m – 10.00 a.m   –  10.00a.m – 10.05 a.m –  10.05a.m – 11.00 a.m

Opening Prayer. Head of Department’s Address Departmental Postgraduate Co-Ordinators’ Address Address by a Senior Academic in the Department Response Speeches/Questions from Students Showing students round the Departmental teaching and research resources/facilities. Closing prayer Orientation continues at the Faculty.

 

24^th April, 2017: 2.00p.m – 4.00p.m – Orientation at the Faculty Level

–  2.00 p.m – 2.05 p.m –  2.05 p.m – 2.20 p.m –  2.20 p.m – 2.40 p.m –  2.40 p.m – 3.00 p.m

Opening Prayer. An Address by Dean of Faculty Address by the Faculty Representative of SPGS Board Address by the Immediate Past Dean of the Faculty or another Senior   Academic in the Faculty.

Responses from students. Tour of Faculty facilities, especially the Faculty Library.

 

Heads of Department and Deans of Faculty are enjoined to ensure that the orientation programmes in their Departments and Faculties are executed and implemented in accordance with the above schedule.  Please, inform all who will address the students during the orientation programme in good-time to enable them prepare their talks.
