Brief Biography:

Smart Uchegbu grew up with his mates and had his primary education at Methodist Primary School Agbani Road, Enugu. He proceeded to Union Secondary School Awkunanaw, Enugu. He obtained first degree in Computer Science from Grambling State University, Louisiana, USA. In 1984, he attended University of Houston, Texas, USA where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management. Smart joined the University of Nigeria in February, 1987 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. He later took another Masters Degree and then Ph.D  in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus. His academic output prompted his professorial elevation to a Reader (an Associate Professor in 2004)  and a Professor in 2009 at the University of Nigeria.

As an academic, Smart Uchegbu’s publications include three mainline books; five other mainline books have his handwritings appended in some of their chapters; not less than twenty articles published in different journals, both local and international; presented more than twenty conference papers which are published and referred to both locally and internationally. He has co-edited  three books;  and presently is the Managing Editor of Journal of Environmental Management and Safety, published by Center for Environment and Population Activities, Enugu, Nigeria and Tropical Environment, published by the Faculty of Environmental Studies, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

A consultant to  both Environ scholar Published by Anambra State University, Uli and  Abia State Government, for whom he has written  two technical reports on Environmental Impact Assessment and Solid Waste Management.
