THE MUSE JOURNAL CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR ITS 50TH ISSUE

The Muse Journal is a journal of creative and critical writing at the department of English and Literary Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. It is the oldest-surviving students’ journal in West Africa, and founded by Chinua Achebe in 1963. The journal calls for submissions for its 50th issue, to be guest-edited by Chika Unigwe and Unoma Azuah. It is tagged The Homecoming Issue, but submissions can be on any theme.

An annual publication, the journal accepts submissions from the following genres:

  • flash fiction
  • short stories
  • plays
  • critical essays
  • literary reviews
  • poetry
  • artworks

There are prizes slotted for the best works in each category. However, only student contributors are eligible for these prizes.

  • Emeka Anuforo Prize for Overall Literary Artist
  • Eriata Oribhabor Prize for Nigerian Pidgin Poetry
  • Fidelis Okoro Prize for Poetry
  • Ugwuanyi Leonard Prize for Flash Fiction
  • Wilson Okereke Prize for Short Story
  • Leo Anele-Ejesu Prize for Drama
  • Damian Opata Prize for Criticism
