Biography :

Chukwuma Ume joined the University of Nigeria in 2016 as a graduate assistant in the Department of Agricultural Economics. He is currently a Lecturer (Teaching and Research) in the same department. His research is transdisciplinary, cutting across subjects such as climate security, water governance, peacebuilding, innovation agriculture (Agroecology and organic farming), environmental sustainability, and the Anthropocene. 

In 2014, He graduated as the valedictorian and the Overall best graduating student of the University of Nigeria (Summa Cum Laude). In 2015 he received the United Kingdom Chevening scholarship; in 2016 he won the Commonwealth Award. He is also a German Academic Exchange Service and Blavantik School of Governance (Oxford University) Award winner. In 2020, he won a Doctoral Research Fellowship Award from the US Social Science Research Council. In 2019, he was also selected as a Right Livelihood Junior Research fellow, Center for Development Research, University of Boon, Germany. His recognition as a researcher is evidenced by a range of scholarly awards such as the Next Generation Africa Scholar Award and the Climate change research grant from the sustainability research institute, university of Leeds.

Chukwuma is currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Agricultural Economics (University of Nigeria). He holds an MSc in Environment and Development (University of Leeds). His first degree is in Agricultural Economics (First Class Honours, University of Nigeria).
