Biography :

Nnamchi Chukwudi Innocent was born in Enugu, Nigeria. He obtained his BSc degree in Microbiology/Biochemistry (Combined Honors) in 1998 and a Masters in Environmental Microbiology in 2004. In May 2014, he obtained a PhD in Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. All the degrees were obtained from the Department of Microbiology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. In 2006, he joined the Department of Microbiology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka as an Assistant lecturer. He was a visiting research fellow to the University of Leicester, England, from October 2010 to September, 2011 where he worked at the purification and characterization of peroxidases from Nigerian sorghum varieties. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Guangxi Academy of Sciences/Guangxi University, Nanning, China. His research interests include malting and brewing related works with using sorghum, millet, maize, wheat and barley. Such works often include the assessment of key malting parameters, and also how key enzymes such as the peroxidases mentioned above and other important enzymes affect brewing using these grains. In addition to these, the major focus of DrNnamchi’s current research center around natural products research and development particularly as it concerns the antimicrobial properties of natural plants and food substances and also microorganismsincluding their marine counterparts, and how these can be developed and deployed as solutions to counter the increasing scourge of antimicrobial resistance.
