Biography :

Thaddeus Chidi Nzeadibe is Professor of Environmental Management & Sustainability in the Department of Geography, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Resource and Environmental Policy Research Centre (REPRC), University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He obtained a PhD in Environmental Management and his areas of teaching and research expertise include Sustainable Environmental Management, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, Climate Change Awareness and Adaptation, Political Ecology, Solid Waste Management in urban governance, Waste picking and Informal sector Recycling. He has published peer-reviewed articles on the themes in top-tier environment and development journals. His research has been funded by Nordic Africa Institute (NAI), Uppsala, International Foundation for Science (IFS), Stockholm, and the African Technology Policy Studies Network (ATPS), Nairobi, Kenya. His recent research has dealt with solid waste management during Covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria, and also the political economy of Covid-19 and informal urban governance in Africa. He is currently undertaking research projects funded by Environment for Development (EfD) Initiative, Gothenburg University, Sweden, Royal Academy of Engineering, UK, Swiss National Science Foundation and SOAS- ACE, UK. He served as External Reviewer for Global Waste Management Outlook (GWMO) (UNEP & ISWA 2015) and serves as Waste Management and Socioeconomics Expert in EIA Review Panels of the Federal Ministry of Environment. He is co-editor of the book: Dealing with waste: Resource Recovery and Entrepreneurship in Informal Sector Solid Waste Management in African cities. Trenton, NJ: Africa World Press (2017). He the Coordinator of the Waste & Resource Management Research Group (WARMREG), University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a Visiting Researcher at the DSI/NRF/CSIR Chair in Waste and Society, University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa. He is also a leading researcher on informal waste recycling in Africa and currently serves as Editor in the journal Sustainable Environment - An international journal of environmental health and sustainability (Taylor & Francis Publishers). Professor Nzeadibe served as Professor on Sabbatical at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike from 2019-2020 during which period he contributed to raising the profile of the university through publication of Thomson Reuters indexed journal articles, OP-EDs and winning a highly competitive research grant on COVID-19. In February 2021, Prof. Nzeadibe was appointed an Inaugural Member and Senior Fellow of the Pan-African Scientific Research Council (PASRC). He previously served as Chairman of the Faculty of the Social Sciences Postgraduate Committee and Representative of the Faculty on the Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies and currently serves as the Associate Dean, Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
