Successful Accreditation of the Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE-SPED) PG Programmes

We are glad to inform the University Community that the Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACE-SPED), has obtained the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation for all her programmes.
The success of the resource verification and programmes accreditation exercises carried out by the NUC was conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor in a letter from NUC dated 10th May, 2022, herein attached. In all, a total of sixteen (16) programmes (7 PhD programmes, 8 Masters Programmes and one PGD Programme), in energy, power, engineering and related disciplines, received full NUC accreditation. The names of the programmes are in the attached letter.
The ACE-SPED wishes to use this opportunity to express immense gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor who has consistently provided unalloyed support and institutional buy-in from the inception of the ACE-SPED project till date. We also greatly thank the DVCs, the Director of Academic Planning, the Dean of PG school,  the Dean of Student Affairs,  the Director of ICT, the Director of the Energy Centre, the University Librarian and the Deans, HoDs, Principal Investigators  and staff of collaborating faculties, departments and research groups/laboratories, for helping to provide the enabling environment  that made the exercise a huge success. More specially, I thank the staff and students of ACE-SPED, who worked day and night to ensure the success of the exercise.
It may be recalled that the Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACE-SPED), is a World Bank assisted PostGraduate Research and Education project that commenced activities at University of Nigeria Nsukka, during the 2019/2020 academic session. The Centre was conceptualized to proffer sustainable solutions to some developmental challenges peculiar to the Sub-Saharan Africa region, such as, lack of access to a reliable electric power supply, poor diffusion of renewable and alternative energy technologies, as well as a shortage of high-level skilled manpower to deploy and manage the power supply system. The ACE-SPED is one of the 17 centres of excellence granted by the world bank in Nigeria, after a rigorous thematic competition among universities in West Africa, under the World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence Development Impact Project. In all, there are about 44 world bank assisted centres of excellence in West Africa.
With the full accreditation of her programmes, ACE-SPED is further positioned to fulfill her mandate and hence serve the ideals and vision of UNN in particular and Nigeria/Africa in general.
