BACKGROUND
Advances in health care, bio-medicine, bio-technologies and bio-medical/social/behavioural  research have created a plethora of developments for humanity and society. These developments require that the ethical, legal and scientific issues associated with them be critically addressed and articulated. A  wide range of pressing questions are being raised within and beyond the research and healthcare communities. Apart from the issues concerning participation  and protection of humans in research and healthcare settings, there is also the moral imperative to delve deeper into the use of animals in research. Everyday, we face ethical dilemmas as we confront and respond to these challenges. As these issues encompass themes and concepts from a variety of disciplines ,an inter-disciplinary approach is required to investigate topics in bioethics. As academics, clinicians, researchers and ethicists, we have a unique opportunity to contribute to the discourse related to the inherent ethical issues, through empirical research, our professional expertise and life experiences.
