The Department of Anaesthesiology, University of Nigeria Enugu Campus was formally carved out of the Department of Surgery on 16th September, 1974 and thus became a separate Department in the Faculty of Medicine, Enugu Campus of the University of Nigeria. Specialists at the inception of Anaesthesia in our Faculty were only two – Dr. P. O. Nwachukwu and Dr. T. I. Eziashi. By January and February 1978, Drs Okechukwu and B.U.O Umeh joined the team.
