The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology was a pioneer department at the
time of the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Nigeria in
March 1967. Prof. O.K. Ogan was the first head of department and joined the
department as an associate professor and the only academic staff. One other
lecturer joined him in May 1967. Over the years the department has grown and
presently has thirteen lecturers (two professor, seven senior lecturers and four
lecturer 1).
