Dermatology Continued

The sub-department has moved forward remarkably. In 1993 a side laboratory was established to carry out investigations which are peculiar to Dermatology and Venereology and also for research projects. A laboratory scientist and a laboratory assistant were recruited to man the laboratory. A second laboratory scientist was employed this year.

In 1994, leprosy services were introduced free of charge in collaboration with the German Leprosy Association and Enugu North Local Government Health Department. In 1996, Dr. Nnoruka fully joined the department after post-graduate training. In 2004 she became the coordinator of the sub-department. In 2005 the National post-graduate medical college accredited the sub-department for training of specialists in Dermatology and Venereology. At the moment, 2 resident doctors are preparing for their part II final examinations in Dermatology and Venereology. In 2007, Dr. Onyekaonwu joined the sub-department as a lecturer 1. The sub-department has trained 4 specialists who are working both in the UNTH and in other hospitals. Lectures and demonstration ward rounds are also extended to post-graduate student-doctors from other departments.
