By 1975, Dr. M. Ilo joined the department, but left after one academic session to join the Nigerian Air Force. Dr. W.P.J.C. Onyeama joined in 1976, but left around 1989 to return to England. Our first Resident, Dr. A. Onuorah was sent to England where he completed his training in Psychiatry, returned to the department, but left later for Canada. Other residents, who passed through the department in the earlier years, included Dr. K.O. Okonkwo, Dr. G.M. Onyeama, Dr. E.N.C. Okereke. The latter left for the United States of America, while Drs. Okoronkwo and Onyeama stayed back and have continued to work diligently. They have both since qualified as Psychiatrists and are engaged in the department as Senior Lecturer and Lecturer I respectively. Dr. P.O. Ebigbo, a Clinical Psychologist joined in 1978 and by dint of hard work and devotion to duty has risen to the rank of Professor of Clinical Psychology. Mr. F. Okwaraji came into the department as Lecturer II but has now earned promotion to Lecturer I. Rev. (Sr.) R.M.C. Muomah joined the department as Clinical Psychologist with the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital. Several secretarial staff have passed through the department at different times. The University and Hospital usually post them. Dr. A.O. Agomoh, Consultant Psychiatrist and Medical Director of Federal neuropsychiatry Hospital, Enugu and Dr. J.O. Onwukwe, Consultant Psychiatrist at the same hospital have been engaged as part time/adjunct lecturers to help carry the load of teaching and clinical work. At present, there is no psychiatric ward at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, despite our entreaties over the years to have one established. A section of the College of Medicine Library houses several books donated to the department by Prof. Boroffka. There is a paucity of staff, offices and other facilities. However, recent renovations, supply of personal computers and air-conditioning facilities have impacted positively on our working environment. While our clinical activities are carried out at the Federal Neuropsychiatry Hospital, and Ituku Ozalla, arrangements are being made by both the University and Hospital to address the issue of a physical psychiatric presence at the new Teaching Hospital site.
