SERVICES.
About 2500 surgical and clinical specimens are processed and reported in the department for now. In addition, cytopathological analysis and autopsies are carried out with emphasis both on the provision of clinical services and resident and student teaching. The academic staff have carried out research work and have been involved in both local and international seminars, conferences and workshops. In summary we provide the following services:
  • Histopathological services to the whole of the Eastern Region including parts of Benue and Kogi states.
  • Provision of cytopathological services including gynaecologic cytology and fine needle aspirate cytology to the Easter region and its adjoining states.
  • Autopsy services for clinicians and Coroners.
  • Storage and embalmment of corpses.
  • Teaching of undergraduate medical and lab students.
  • Residency training for resident doctors.
  • Practical experience for intern medical lab scientists .
  • Provision of teaching slides and museum pots specimens for both undergraduate and

          post graduate training.

  • Coordination of cancer registry activities.
  • Scientific research and publications.
