Marcel Ugwuoke Agu was born in Ohebe Dim, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State of Nigeria on May 13, 1946. From 1960 to 1966, he was a student of the prestigious College of the Immaculate Conception (C.I.C), Enugu where he obtained West African School Certificate (WASC) and the Higher School Certificate (HSC) in 1964 and 1966 respectively.
Marcel U. Agu obtained the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1974 and the M.A.Sc. and Ph.D degrees from the University of Toronto, Canada in 1978 and 1982 respectively. He worked briefly as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the Power Devices Section of the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Toronto, before returning to Nigeria in October 1982.
Since 1982 to date, Marcel U. Agu has majorly been serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He has many publications in the specialized area of Power Electronics (Semiconductor Power Circuits and their applications in Power Supplies, Electric Motor Drives, Induction Heating, Utility Power Quality Improvement and Renewable Energy Conversion).
Marcel U. Agu has severally served as the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and has, among several other positions held, been Chairman, Power Generation and Distribution Research group of the National Satellite Research and Development Agency, Abuja (2006-2008) and the Chairman, Enugu State Rural Electrification Board (1992-1994).
Prof. Marcel U. Agu is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), member of the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN) and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
