University of Nigeria, Sports Council was firmly established during the tenure of Prof. F.N. Ndili, an erstwhile Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Objectives of UNN Sports Council

1.   To work out broad policies regarding the sporting activities of the University particularly with respect to overall sports programme of the University, the time-table of events and the participation in National and International sporting events of the University teams and/or officials.

2.   To see to the acquisition, effective utilization, care and maintenance of various sports equipment and facilities belonging to the University.

3.   To promote active participation of our sports men and women, staff and students of the University, in continuous sporting activities, in such a manner as to enhance the success of the University in outside competitive sports events

4.    To advise on the University’s financial needs for sports, to prepare draft annual budget for sports

5.  To consider and make recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor on the appointment of suitable coaches (part-time or full-time) for the University’s sporting activities.

6.    To deal with any other sporting matters as may be referred to it by the Vice-Chancellor
