The theory of fixed points has been revealed as a major, powerful and important tool in the study of nonlinear phenomena. Fixed point theory has been applied in such diverse fields as Differential Equations, Topology, Economics, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Game Theory, Physics, Dynamics, Optimal Control, and Functional Analysis. Recent rapid development of efficient techniques for computing fixed points has enormously increased the usefulness of the theory of fixed points for applications. Thus, fixed point theory is increasingly becoming an invaluable tool in the arsenal of the applied mathematics. Many of the most important nonlinear problems of applied Mathematics reduce to solving a given equation which in turn may be reduced to finding the fixed points of a certain operator. Furthermore, contractive-type conditions naturally arise for many of these problems. Thus metrical fixed point theory has developed significantly in the second part of the 20th century. It is this important and dynamic area that  have been our main area of research for over two decades now. While majority of our research are in  the area of approximation of fixed points of very important operators and solutions of operator equations, and on the stability of iteration procedures, we are also making modest contributions in the area of existence (and uniqueness) of fixed points of certain operators and solutions of operator equations.

Brief Profile of Group Members:
Micah Okwuchukwu Osilike: was born at Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State in Nigeria. He graduated from the Department of Mathematics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1986 with First Class Honours. He did his National Youth Service in Kano State, Nigeria where he carried out his primary assignment at the Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria. He obtained his M.Sc. in Mathematics in 1988 from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. In 1993 he obtained the Diploma of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (DICTP) in Mathematics from the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1994 from the Department of Mathematics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. He served as Lecturer II at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, Nigeria during the period November 1988—October 1991. In November 1991 he joined University of Nigeria as Lecturer II, and rose to the rank of Professor of Mathematics on October 1, 1998. Micah Okwuchukwu  Osilike is working in the area of Functional Analysis. His main research interest is in the area of Fixed Point Theory and Applications. Micah Okwuchukwu Osilike has served the Nigerian Mathematical Society as Assistant Secretary, Vice-President, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Nigerian Mathematical Society, and he is currently the President of the Society. He has been regular Associate of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy for two terms, and he was in the University of Nigeria Governing Council as one of the elected members representing University Senate during the period February 2009—February 2013.  He is currently the Director, Academic Planning, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.  He is a member of the Editorial Board of Abstract and Applied Analysis. Micah Okwuchukwu Osilike became a member of the Council of Knights, Nsukka Diocese, Anglican Communion in 2001 after his investiture by Rt. Rev. Dr. J.C. Ilonuba, JP.
Besheng George Akuchu: obtained Ph.D. from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. He is currently a lecturer at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. He is working in the area of Fixed point theory and applications and operator equations.
 
Shehu Yekini: obtained Ph.D. from African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja,  Nigeria. He is currently a lecturer at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. He is working in the area of Fixed point theory and applications and operator equations.
 
 Felicia Obiageli Isiogugu: obtained Ph.D. from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. She is currently a lecturer at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. She is working in the area of Fixed point theory and applications and operator equations.
 
Eucharia Ezinwanne Chima: obtained M.Sc. from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria in 2010. She is currently on her Ph.D. programme in Mathematics at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, She is lecturing at Bingham University, PMB 005 Karu, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Her research orientation includes fixed point theory and applications and operator equations.
Peter Uche Nwokoro:  obtained M.Sc. from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria in 2009. He is currently on his Ph.D. programme in Mathematics at University of Nigeria, Nsukka.  He is a Lecturer at University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His research orientation includes fixed point theory and applications and operator equations.
Felix U. Attah: obtained M.Sc. from University of Jos, Nigeria. He is currently a lecturer at
Akanu Ibian Federal Polytechnic, Uwana, Afikpo, Nigeria and is concluding his Ph.D. programme in Mathematics at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. He is working on existence and approximation of fixed points of operators and solutions of operator equations.
 
Osuo-siseken U. Oguguo: received M.Sc. from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria in 2010. She is currently on her Ph.D. programme in Mathematics at University of Nigeria, Nsukka., and she is also lecturing at College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Rivers State, Nigeria. Her research orientation includes fixed point theory and applications and operator equations.
