BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FACULTY

The Faculty of Dentistry was established in 2004 by the Senate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. It was created out of the former Faculty of Medical Sciences and Dentistry where it was a Department and later School of Dentistry.

Under the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Dentistry, the school was awarding BDS Degree of the University of Nigeria and graduated a number of students before the National Universities Commission (NUC) withdrew its accreditation from the School and insisted that the School should have a separate Administration before it could award Degree of its own. The separate Administration was achieved in 2004 after the establishment of the Faculty with Professor Chima Oji as the pioneer Dean of the young Faculty.
