SUMMARY OF THE SITATION OF OUR PROJECTS
S/N TITLE AIM COLLABORATORS SITUATION 1 NECOP (Nigerian Environmental and Climatic Observing Program) To Monitor Real Time Climatic and Environmental Hazards in Nigeria University of Delaware, NIMET, & Nigeria Universities Equipment procured for 5 stations. Installation currently going on at Nsukka, MAKURDI, Abuja, Lagos, PH, Five more stations with 2007 Budget which is yet to be received. 2 Microwave Propagation To study radio propagation in the troposphere and produce accurate characterization curves for Nigerian Nigerian Universities – FUTA, UNN, EBSU Equipment has been procured. Installation completed at FUTA. Others to follow. 3 More stations with 2007 Budget when ready 3 Optical Astronomy Project To set up a 25cm optical telescope for teaching and research as well as popularization CBSS and Nigerian Universities Equipment purchased building near completion. Done electronics yet to be installed 4 Solar Physics Project To monitor and utilize solar radiation and intensity CBSS & Nigerian Universities 2 Stations have been completed and operational. The remaining 2 are being installed. Stations presently Nsukka, Abuja, Awka, Oka. 5 Capacity Building in Radio Astronomy To learn Instrumentation and Observational and Computing Techniques Japan MOU Signed 2 Researchers visited Japan in 2006 for 3 months 6 Capacity Building in Optical Astronomy To learn Instrumentation and Observational and Computing Techniques South Africa Mou Signed 2 Researchers were in South Africa last year 2006 for 3 months 7 Capacity Building in USA To study NECOP set up, installation and operational techniques University of Delaware, USA MOU Signed 1 Engineer was in Delaware f or 1 month in 2007 8 Capacity Building Locally To improve job performance and expose staff of all categories to new managerial developments. Nigerian Universities & other Training Institutions in Nigeria Both Scientific and Administrative Staff have benefited 9 Permanent Site Development To have a benefiting office/laboratory complex/workshop - The site has been fully fenced and secure. Development is awaiting fund allocation 10 Science popularization programme To create awareness in sciences to the public, secondary schools and universities All Nigerian Universities Successfully carried out in the 6 Geopolitical zones of Nigeria. Also to be repeated in 2007 with fund release 11 Nigerian Journal of Space Research To encourage original research in various areas of science and technology in Nigeria All Nigerian Universities, Research Institutes and Private Corporate Bodies Successfully produced 2 volumes in 2006 & 2007 respectively. 12 Workshops/Seminars To discuss and further research projects to realizing more spin-off All Nigerian Universities & Research Establishments Successfully hosted in 2004, 2005 and recently March 2007. Others to follow after the general election. 13 Aerosols and Pollution Research To monitor and study the effects of Aerosols on our climate NIMET Using over 30 years of NIMET data. We have been able to carry out intensive research which has resulted in 2 publications in International Journals
