It is convenient to break down the relief of the Njikoka and Awka areas into two major landforms, namely the Eastern Lowland and Western Upland, including the Idemili Valley and associated negative relief features. These prominent features are characterized by two main lithologic units, the argillaceous rocks (Eastern Lowland) of the Imo Formation and the arenaceous facies (Western Upland)_of the Ameki Formation, both of Tertiary age. The project area is also characterized by the occurrence of two water sources conditions, viz. surface and geohydrologic resources of the Eastern Lowland and ground-water discharge from the prolific Nanka Sands reservoir of the Western Upland area. pH and other analyses indicate that the water samples are fit for domestic and industrial uses.
